Your wedding day will probably be so crazy busy, it’ll be easy to forget some items that will set the tone and make the day better.
Yes, you will remember the big things on your wedding day. You’ll surely get dressed, have your hair and makeup on point, and arrive looking amazing at your ceremony. But what about the little things? The ones that will ensure that you feel amazing and aren’t totally stressed out? These are the ones you really need to plan for because they are easy to forget in the moment, only to remember later on what you wished you had done.

Some of the items on this list may be optional to you, and that’s okay. If you are able to fit them all in, your wedding day will be that much more enhanced, but it won’t necessarily be ruined if you omit something. Everything is geared towards making the day run a bit more smooth, and ensuring that you are in the best physical and mental state for what will be a very busy, yet amazing, experience.
From eating, planning, communicating, and good old self-care, these items will apply to most people. Read on for more details.
1. Eat Breakfast
Are you a breakfast eater? I am!
Not everyone likes to eat breakfast, but if you are the type who needs to have something in the morning, don’t get swept away with the day and miss out on some good fueling early on. Eating breakfast has so many benefits to it. If you’re anything like me, if you don’t eat it at best you’ll get hangry and at worst you’ll start to feel sick from low blood sugar.
If you’re in a location that isn’t your normal home, like a hotel, it may be tricky to find yourself a good breakfast, so plan ahead. In the days leading up to your wedding, make sure you know what your options are and have a solid way to eat in the morning. Either find a way to bring items with you to eat, or scout out a good restaurant or place you can order from. It also helps if you recruit a friend or family member to take care of this detail for you.

2. Get Together All Wedding Clothes And Accessories
Now, I know what you’re thinking. How could you forget to get dressed?
Let me break it down for you. I’m not just talking about the obvious wedding gown and shoes. I’m also talking about undergarments, jewelry, hair clips, cufflinks, and any other little items that you meticulously picked out for your wedding day. Putting everything together for assembly to make life easier later on when you’re ready to go. Imagine that the clock is ticking but you can’t find “the other earring”. It would be so stressful as you have to walk out the door.
A good rule of practice would be to hang up your wedding gown or suit and then put everything else in a bag that can also be hung with it. This will allow for easy grabbing of items and make sure that you don’t forget something. It doesn’t have to be fancy, but it should be functional.

3. Designate A Wedding Day Communication Point Person
On your wedding day you’re not going to want to field calls and questions from people wondering where to be and when. This is why you need a point person to clarify.
This could be anyone who is in the “know” and can answer their phone regularly. The kind of person who can direct others but not get too confused or overwhelmed in the process. It helps if you can give out this person’s contact information on your wedding website or hotel welcome bag.
4. Charge Your Phone
Not that you should be focusing on your cell phone while getting ready on your wedding day, but chances are you’ll want it handy or at least usable when and if you need it.
Nothing is worse than when your phone is dead. Be proactive and keep it charging overnight and throughout the day if you are using it. When you go to your actual wedding, be sure to have someone keep guard of your phone. Also, have a charger handy, just in case. You never know when you’re going to want to snap a photo or take a quick video with your own device.

5. Take Time To De-Stress
It’s incredibly common to wake up on your wedding day with some feels happening.
Not that you’ll be a jittery mess, but it’s easy for the excitement of the day to come over you. This is why it’s important to re-focus that energy in a healthy way so you don’t start to feel overwhelmed or stressed. I have a post here about being calm and centered on your wedding day, but in short, do something relaxing for at least a little bit the morning of your wedding.
This is different for everyone, but some easy suggestions are to meditate, get your body moving with some exercise, or enjoy a peaceful beverage with yourself or one other person.

6. Have A Plan For Lunch
Now, if you forget to eat breakfast, it’s hard to believe that lunch will be forgotten, too, right?
Right. Most people will remember to eat lunch. But. . . much like breakfast, you need a plan for it. Lunchtime for most wedding days is right when a bunch of activity is happening. People are getting ready, looking at the clock to make sure they are at the right place at the right time, and most of your close friends and family will be very, very busy. Remembering to order or make lunch can easily become an afterthought.
My advice? Find a person who can make it happen. Someone who isn’t going to be busy mid-day, but who will still be involved in the wedding action. In my case, it was my brother. I planned ahead and gave him a lunch order that he then took to a local restaurant and picked up for everyone else. Everyone was well fed and it all went very smoothly.

7. Doublecheck You Have Everything You Want To Bring To The Wedding
Now, if you’re anything like me, this won’t be a doublecheck, but rather a quadruple (or more) check, but you get what I mean.
For most people, you’ll get ready for the ceremony at a spot that isn’t exactly right at your ceremony space. Before you leave your “getting ready location”, make sure you have everything you’ll need for your wedding ceremony and reception handy. This may include your marriage license, wedding vows, letters, wedding rings, vendor tips, change of shoes, and extra copies of wedding invitations and save the dates for your photographer to use in photos.
What you bring to the ceremony will look different for everyone, and you may have a designated person to take this all for you, but it never hurts to just make sure it’s handled correctly. The worst thing is that you forget something essential and have to do without it or waste time getting it later.
8. Drink Lots Of Water
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – hydration is essential to your wedding day experience.
Yes, water will make you have to go to the bathroom more. However, it will help your skin look healthy, it will reduce the likelihood of headaches and fatigue, and if you’re planning on talking or dancing at your wedding, you’ll need to replenish those fluids. Getting a head start in the morning will set you up for hydration later. It’s probable that you’ll be so busy during the wedding it will be very, very easy to forget to drink water. Here is a great article about why hydration is important on your wedding day, and every day.

9. Give Yourself A Foot Rub
Wow I wish someone told me about this on my wedding day.
By the end of the evening at my wedding, my feet were numb. No joke. The standing, dancing, and general pressure on them made them actually lose feeling. I even had my heels off at one point and was in sandals, but the damage was done. It took a few days for the feeling to properly return to them.
This is why I suggest that you do a little proactiveness in the foot department the morning of your wedding. Roll your feet along a lacrosse ball, massage some lotion into those puppies, or use a percussion gun if you have one handy. Do something to get the blood flowing in your feet so you can maybe still feel them late at night.

10. Avoid Trying Any New Products
The last thing you want to do is to have a skin freak-out on your wedding day if you introduce something new.
This could be anything, from lotions to serums to make up. If you have sensitive skin, or even just normal skin, you may find that a new product doesn’t agree with it. Aside from redness and feeling uncomfortable, it’s also possible that new products can cause welts and hives if you have a strong enough reaction.
So, if you’re about to try something new, or are hiring a professional make up or hair stylist, make sure to do a dry run ahead of time to ensure your body agrees with all the products.
11. Call, Text, or Send A Note To Your Future Spouse
Chances are you aren’t with your fiancé the morning of the wedding.
If you’re separated, there shouldn’t be any harm in sending a message their way. Let them know you’re thinking about them and can’t wait to see them later. Don’t feel like you have to hide away from them, either, even if you’re seeing each other before the wedding.
A quick call, sweet text message, or even cuter – handwritten note that someone else can give to them, is so easy to take care of and will leave a lasting impression with your love.
