Planning on serving delicious beer cocktails at your wedding? Not sure what recipes may work? This is the post that will help you figure it out!
When it comes to alcoholic drinks that include beer, there are a ton of options out there. The issue is, for some people, that many of these drinks include hard alcohol and beer. They aren’t focused on just beer as the main source of booze in the drink, you know? If you are hosting a wedding that is not serving hard alcohol, this could be an issue. Knowing some delicious beer cocktails, where beer is the only source of alcohol, is key.
The other part of serving beer cocktails at a wedding is making ones that are crowd pleasing. Yes, many people like to drink beer strait, but others may not love the taste of beer. They want something fun, refreshing, and tasty, but they don’t want to feel like they are drinking a beer. For an event, such as a wedding, beer cocktails mean that the drink can appeal to a bigger crowd, not just those who love beer. The good news is that there are definitely options out there.

Let’s get into it!
BLACKBERRY BEER COCKTAIL
Perfect for a summer wedding, a Blackberry Beer Cocktail is a fun and refreshing drink.
What’s cool about this drink is that the berries used can be either fresh or frozen. And, blackberries can be swapped out for blueberries, raspberries, or even strawberries. Some variations of this recipe may call for vodka, but if your wedding is omitting hard alcohol, skip it. Focus just on the beer to make a light, easy drink that guests will love. The recipe below is for a pitcher of this beer cocktail, but you can also modify to make individual drinks if that suits your wedding more.
How to make a pitcher of blackberry beer cocktail:
- Four bottles (12 ounces each) of light beer
- One can frozen raspberry lemonade concentrate, thawed
- One cup of blackberries
- ½ cup of club soda
- Ice
- Lemon slice or blackberries for garnish
Mix beer, lemonade, berries, and club soda in a pitcher. Serve over ice in a tall glass and garnish with lemon or berries.
CHELADA
A Chelada is a tangy, fresh, somewhat salty beer cocktail that can be mixed up to suit your taste.
The base of a Chelada is Mexican beer (think Corona or something similar), mixed with fresh lime juice, and a salty rim. This drink is so easy to serve, and to also drink, because it’s ingredients are so limited. If this drink seems somewhat familiar, it’s a simplified version of a Michelada, which is also on this list. That said, you can mix it up with using different spices, different fruit juice bases, and whatever makes the most sense for you.
How to make a classic Chelada:
- A full Mexican lager beer (about 12 ounces)
- One ounce lime juice
- One pinch salt
- Ice
- Fine sea salt or tajin
Run a lime wedge over the edge of a glass, and then dip in salt or seasoning. Add lime juice, pinch of salt, fill glass with ice cubes, and pour in beer.
MICHELADA
As mentioned before, a Chelada is a simple Michelada. Though, to be fair, Micheladas are pretty simple, too.
A Michelada is one of the spicier beer cocktails out there. It’s great for a brunch weddings as it has Bloody Mary vibes to it. To make it, you take Mexican beer, add a lot of lime juice, a little tomato juice, some tasty sauces, and then season the rim as you would a Bloody Mary. Just like with the Chelada, there are tons of variations. Many of them can be found in this fun article, and have to do with mixing up the add-in juices, spices, and types of fruit.
Directions for making a classic Michelada:
- Full Mexican lager beer
- Three tablespoons (1 ½ ounce) lime juice
- ½ ounce tomato juice
- One teaspoon Worchestshire
- One teaspoon hot sauce
- Seasonings like salt, celery salt, old bay, or tajin for rim
- Ice
Mix seasonings together, rub lime juice around rim of glass, dip it into the seasonings. Add lime juice, tomato juice, Worchestshire sauce, and hot sauce into glass. Fill glass with ice. Top with beer.
SHANDY
Of all the delicious beer cocktails on this list, the Shandy may be the most well known, and possibly the oldest. Shandy’s were first created in England over a hundred and forty years ago. Simply put, they have been around for a very long time.
There are lots of variations of Shandy’s. For example, they can be mixed up with various citrus flavors, making them as sweet or bitter as the drinker desires. The recipe below calls for lager, or light, beer, and sparkling water or a soda drink, making a basic Shandy. Summer Shandy’s call for wheat beer, simple syrup, lemon juice, and club soda. Of course, change it up to suit your taste and style.
Directions for making a basic Shandy:
- Six ounces lager beer
- Six ounces soda, ginger ale, ginger beer, or sparkling water
- Garnish with citrus fruit
Put beer and soda in a chilled glass and gently stir to combine. Garnish with citrus fruit of choice.
BLACK VELVET COCKTAIL
The Black Velvet cocktail is probably the weirdest of the beer cocktails on this list. It’s a simple mixture of beer and sparkling wine.
I know, weird, right?
Served in a champagne glass, Black Velvet beer cocktails don’t seem like they should work. But they do. The trick is to use a dark beer, like Guinness. The wine can be sparkling or it can be actual champagne. The drink itself is dark, moody, and kind of romantic. Try it and tell me what you think!
How to make a Black Velvet cocktail:
- Three ounces sparkling wine or champagne
- Three ounces dark beer, like Guinness
Pour the wine into a champagne glass, then pour in beer. Stir if you desire, or let it sit for a minute to blend.
