Do you want to be comfortable at your wedding? Of course you do! Let’s talk about how to make it happen.
Big wedding, small wedding, brunch wedding, night wedding, there are a million variations of weddings out there. However, one thing remains true among all weddings, or at least among those who are getting married. We all want to be comfortable. Unless, of course, we are masochists, but that’s a post for another day.
When it comes to being comfortable at your wedding, there are many things working against you. Your outfit, shoes, and accessories, for example. You also have to deal with being around a lot of people, being the center of attention, and perhaps being outside in less-than-ideal weather. Plus, you want your body to be comfortable at your wedding. This means feeling good, from the inside, out.
There’s a lot that goes into it.
How To Be Comfortable At Your Wedding
This post is going to tell you how to be comfortable at your wedding. As alluded to above, the tips in this post are not just about being comfortable in your clothes. They are all inclusive. This means that these tips are aimed to help you feel comfortable overall, so you can have the best wedding day experience. It goes over mental, physical, and social comfort.
Let’s get into it!
WEAR QUALITY SHOES
One of the most common complaints about discomfort at weddings has to do with our feet.
Now, I’ve written posts about feet before. There’s a post on avoiding foot pain after your wedding. And, many posts on general foot comfort. If your feet are sensitive, I encourage you to check out ways to help them prepare for your wedding. To give them a fighting chance, make sure you wear quality shoes at your wedding. This means that the shoes fit your feet. Are made from materials that have a little “give” to them. Are not cheapy shoes that provide zero support and leave your feet sore after an hour of standing.
Be sure to take your time picking out footwear ahead of your wedding. Walk around in the shoes, and let your feet get used to them. Return them if you can’t stand in them for long periods of time. Do the prep, and your feet will be more comfortable at your wedding.
DRINK WATER BEFORE YOUR WEDDING, BUT NOT RIGHT BEFORE
Staying hydrated can help us just feel better, can’t it?
Hydration means that our skin isn’t as dry. Our mouths are able to speak better. Our bodies are lubricated and functioning. Hydration gives us energy, and helps us maintain that energy throughout the day. It helps with sore muscles and fatigue. In short, hydration will help you feel comfortable on your wedding day.
With one caveat.
Too much hydration, and you will have to go to the bathroom a lot. Which isn’t ideal when you’re all dressed up and incredibly busy. So, hydrate the day before your wedding. Hydrate in the morning. And, then, when it’s time to get dolled up, back off drinking water so you’re not super uncomfortable, if you know what I mean.
TRY OUT ALL HAIR ACCESSORIES AHEAD OF YOUR WEDDING
You know what can be super uncomfortable? Hair accessories.
Long story short, if you are doing a thing with your hair on your wedding day, try out the accessories before your wedding day. Actually have someone else place them in your hair and see how they feel. Wear them around for a few hours. Does your head hurt after a while? Does it feel heavy? Are you comfortable with the accessories? Asking yourself these questions can help you decide if they will actually work for your wedding, if you want to remain comfortable well into the night.
DO A MAKEUP TRIAL
Are you the type of person who wears a lot of makeup every day? How about makeup on super busy days where you are moving around a lot, in front of a lot of people, and perhaps dancing the night away? Yeah, me either.
Makeup can be a whole thing when you are getting married. If you’re not used to it, having all that stuff on your face can feel strange. Plus, it can feel like a lot to maintain your lipstick, or have your eyes hold up fake eyelashes.
What’s the solution so you can feel comfortable at your wedding, while still caked in makeup? Do a makeup trial. These trials can help you determine what works for your body, so you can either adjust, know what to expect, or edit what goes on your face. The intel can help you later on.

WATCH OUT FOR SCRATCHY FABRICS
Remember earlier when I mentioned clothes? Let’s talk about them a little more. At least, let’s talk about fabric.
Fabric can absolutely derail your ability to be comfortable on your wedding day. Scratchy fabric, which can irritate your skin and leave you absolutely miserable, is the worst. When you pick out your wedding clothes, watch out for irritation potential. This means that beading on your gown, or lace in the wrong spot, can be a future culprit of discomfort. Be selective, and don’t be afraid to choose comfort over style.
INVEST IN WELL FITTING CLOTHES, IN GENERAL
Being comfortable at your wedding means that you know you look good.
If your wedding clothes are too big, or too tight, you may start to feel a certain way about it. It could be body image, or just being bothered by having to pull something up, or suck something in. It’s not ideal. So, invest in a tailor or good alterations. This can help make sure your wedding outfit conforms to your body in the right way. Need help? Check out this post.
GET ENOUGH SLEEP THE NIGHT BEFORE YOUR WEDDING
You know what makes me uncomfortable? Not getting enough sleep.
Sleep is everything when it comes to feeling good. It gives us energy. It gives us clarity. Having enough sleep means that our eyes don’t hurt, and our heads don’t ache. Sleep is where our bodies repair themselves, too. Sleep is a good thing. And, on your wedding day, you don’t want to be sleepy.

BEWARE OF OVER-INVITING PEOPLE
For some, not all, too many people can make us feel uncomfortable.
I don’t know what it is. Perhaps it’s that after a certain point it gets overwhelming. Or, once you get outside your inner circle, you’re inviting people who may not know you that well. Or intimidate you. Maybe it’s the public speaking and the center of attention aspect of getting married. More eyes, more chances to feel uncomfortable. The key here is that if you want to be comfortable at your wedding, look at your guest list. Use discretion when sending invitations.
EAT ENOUGH SO YOU’RE SATISFIED, ALL DAY LONG
Oh, okay, let’s talk about how being hungry leaves us uncomfortable. The best way to stave this off? Eat on your wedding day.
And look, people will tell you that you can’t eat on your wedding day. You’ll be too busy. Too stressed. Too distracted. And, yes, they are right if you let those things happen. Be intentional about eating enough on your wedding day. Schedule time to eat. Have a plan for food you like to be available. Need help? This is a post on how to eat enough on your wedding day.
BRING A WRAP, OR ASK FOR A JACKET
Temperature can play a big part in how comfortable you are on your wedding day.
To hot, and you’ll be uncomfortable. Too cold, the same. When it comes to heat, not much can be done, but if you need tips, check out this post. When it comes to being cold, have some layers to add, just in case. Maybe you think ahead and bring a wrap that goes with your outfit. Or a jacket. Maybe you have to borrow one of these things. Just be prepared, so you can enjoy your wedding without feeling chilly.
PREP A BATHROOM BASKET AND KEEP AN EMERGENCY KIT HANDY
Are you planning on having bathroom baskets at your wedding? How about an emergency kit? If not, it’s time to work them into the plan if you want to be comfortable on your wedding day.
Here’s the thing. These comfort kits have items that will help you be comfortable. Band-aids, for example. Advil. Eye drops. Hair ties. These are the kind of things that you don’t really think about or want until you really, really do. Having them right there at your wedding for your use, just in case, is crucial. And, these kits aren’t hard to put together. A little effort and you’re setting yourself up to feel good on your wedding day.

BRING A CHANGE OF OUTFIT
Okay, last tip to help you feel comfortable on your wedding day.
A change of outfit.
Now, I’m not saying you need to change into a new gown or suit. Keep your wedding clothes on until you feel comfortable taking them off, and then put on something that is, well, comfy. Maybe you don’t want to wait to change until you drive back to your hotel. Perhaps you are going to an afterparty and don’t want to wear your wedding clothes. Have something else to change into. And, by the way, this includes footwear, too.
THOUGHTS ON HOW TO BE COMFORTABLE AT YOUR WEDDING
Friends, when it comes to being comfortable at your wedding, you need to be prepared at all angles. Yes, make sure your clothes are comfortable, your accessories are tolerable, and your feet are cared for. But also be prepared for temperature changes and minor inconveniences. Take the time to eat, drink, and sleep enough so your body isn’t feeling deprived on such a busy day. Be selective about those who are around you as well. Don’t worry, it’s a lot but you’ve got this! Happy wedding planning!
