Most people will warn you that you won’t eat on your wedding day.
I’m here to tell you that if there’s a will, there’s a way. And, I can show you how to make sure you eat on your wedding day so you can actually have the best day ever.
The whole thought behind not eating on your wedding day boils down to a few different reasons. The first is that you’re very busy on your wedding day. Getting ready, having lots of people around you, and being pulled in a bunch of directions does not give you a lot of time to eat. Additionally, there are certain points of your wedding day where it’s impossible to eat. When you have your make up done, for example. Or, having your photos taken. The opportunities are few and far between. Another reason why people tend to skip eating on their wedding day is because of nerves. I don’t know about you, but when I get nervous, my appetite fades away. Because of this, it can feel strange to eat.
The thing about this, and all of the reasons why you may not eat on your wedding day, is that they can be remedied and planned for ahead of your wedding. This is a good thing, because taking the time to eat is important. Not only will your body have energy to get through the day, but your brain will function better as well, and you’ll look and feel healthier.
14 Ways To Make Sure You Eat On Your Wedding Day
This post is going to share with you fourteen ways to make sure you eat on your wedding day. From choosing the right food, to delegating the task to someone else, and even sitting at your wedding strategically, all the tips are in here for you. Eating is important, every day. Plus, with all the time and money you’ve spent on the food at your wedding, it’s essential that you get to enjoy it.
Let’s get into it.
BE STRATEGIC ABOUT THE FOOD THAT IS AVAILABLE TO EAT ON YOUR WEDDING DAY
Not all food is great to eat on your wedding day.
Food that makes a mess, for example. Or food that will cause your skin to break out. Food that creates bad breath should be avoided. Long story short, not all food is created equal when it comes to eating strategically on your wedding day.
Everyone has different preferences when it comes to eating, and a variety of foods that they like or dislike. Because of this, I’ll keep it simple. On your wedding day, have foods available that make sense to you. Be sure that they aren’t drippy or sloppy around your wedding clothes. Have tools like straws, wet napkins, and eating utensils available. If you do, you’ll be more likely to eat on your wedding day.
MAKE SURE THERE’S A PLAN FOR BREAKFAST AND LUNCH
Want to make sure you don’t eat on your wedding day? Don’t plan to have food available.
This tip may sound simple, but it does need some planning. Be sure to have food available for breakfast and lunch on your wedding day. This may mean someone needs to cook. Or pick up something to eat. Food may need to be delivered. You may need to look at menus ahead of time and decide what to get well in advance. It’s not complicated, but it is important.
TAKE TIME TO RELAX ON YOUR WEDDING DAY
Remember earlier when I said it may be hard to eat if you feel nervous on your wedding day? The best way to combat that is to relax.
Now, when it comes to relaxing, we all have our own ways. In this post, I suggest three major ways to relax on your wedding day. They include exercising, meditating, or taking time to be alone or with one other trusted person. Find some time in the morning of your wedding to focus on your nerves and calming them down. Your appetite should follow.
DELEGATE SOMEONE TO BRING SNACKS
Are you a grazer? I sure am.
Grazing, or snacking, goes great on your wedding day. Snacking is quick. It doesn’t require a lot of time, and there is usually minimal effort. So, have someone close to you, who will be available while you get ready on your wedding day, bring snacks. My suggestions? How about some fresh fruit and veggies? Protein bars are also great. Cheese and crackers could pair well with your experience, too. It’s your wedding, feel free to give requests.
BE CLEAR ABOUT WHAT FOOD YOU’D LIKE TO EAT ON YOUR WEDDING DAY
Let’s talk a bit more about wedding food requests.
When you ask someone to bring food to your wedding, or your pre-wedding getting ready time, you need to be specific. I once went to a wedding where the only foods available for the bride were foods that she didn’t like or didn’t trust to eat. Because of this, she didn’t eat on her wedding day and almost passed out.
If you are asking someone to bring food on your wedding day, be clear about what you like. They will appreciate it, and you’re more likely to eat on your wedding day.
ASK YOUR VENUE TO PREP SOMETHING FOR BEFORE THE CEREMONY
Many venues will have a spot for brides and grooms to hang out before their ceremony. And, many venues serve food. See if yours will leave some food out for you ahead of your ceremony.
There is often a bit of downtime ahead of your ceremony. You’re just chilling. Talking. Maybe watching guests arrive. Why not nibble on something? It may be awhile until you get to eat again. Having your venue take care of this will ensure you have the energy to make it through the ceremony. Just be sure to have some floss or gum handy, just in case.
HAVE YOUR CATERER SET ASIDE APPETIZERS FOR YOU
For the most part, newlyweds don’t get to enjoy their cocktail hour. They are quite busy during this time, taking photos and freshening up before the reception.
Because of this, it’s important to ask your caterer to set aside some cocktail hour appetizers for you. When you sit down at your reception, you’ll have them right there to enjoy and nibble on. Yes, you’ll likely eat dinner soon after, but the appetizers will be a nice touch.
GO WITH THE SWEETHEART TABLE
You know what keeps me from eating, in general? When I’m sitting and chatting with a bunch of people surrounding me. Add in being the center of attention, and it’s a surefire way to miss the opportunity to eat on your wedding day.
When you opt to have a sweetheart table, or a table that has just you and your partner at it, you’re way more likely to eat your dinner. With less people around you, there will be less interruptions and distractions. And, therefore, more time to eat.
DELEGATE “EAT ON YOUR WEDDING DAY” REMINDERS TO A TRUSTED FRIEND, FAMILY MEMBER, OR YOUR PARTNER
Sometimes we all need reminders. Especially on our wedding days, when we have so much going on.
Take some time ahead of your wedding to assign others to help make sure you eat. You can even have different people helping you at different points of the day. Early on, ask your maid of honor or mom to remind you to snack or have a meal. Later on, recruit your partner to make sure you get the chance to finish your food. Having gentle reminders from others is a great way to make sure you eat on your wedding day.
PAUSE TO EAT ON YOUR WEDDING DAY ONCE THE LATE-NIGHT SNACKS COME OUT
You know what I didn’t get a chance to eat at my wedding? The late-night snack.
Honestly, I was full from dinner. However, I really should have enjoyed that late-night food. Yes, I was busy with my guests and having fun on the dance floor, but a little break would have been enjoyable. And, I can always eat, even when I’m not hungry.
Make it a point to pause when the late night food comes out at your wedding, and have a bite. It’ll be fun, and you won’t have regrets later.
REMEMBER, YOU BOUGHT THE FOOD – EAT IT!
If nothing else, let’s remember that you invested a lot of time and planning into the food that you’ll have at your wedding. Also, a lot of money.
Keeping that in mind, it’s important that you take the time to enjoy what you purchased. Even if you’re busy. Even if you’re not that hungry. The food is there, and this is your wedding day. No one, and nothing should stop you from at least having a bite here and there and enjoying the fruits of all your planning, money, and efforts.
THOUGHTS ON MAKING SURE YOU EAT ON YOUR WEDDING DAY
Friends, only you can make sure that you get the chance to eat on your wedding day. Remember, eating will make you feel better. You’ll need energy to get through the day. And, this is your day. If guests keep interrupting you when you try to eat, ask someone you trust to shield you while you nosh. You’ll need the nourishment, and you deserve to enjoy the yummy food you’ve picked out. Happy wedding planning!
