There are many things that you may forget during wedding planning. It can be frustrating to try and remember them all!
A few months ago I wrote a post called 10 Things That Are Easy To Forget About Your Wedding Day. Afterwards, I got to thinking. And, remembering. I was able to brainstorm even more things that couples may forget during wedding planning. Things that seem like no-brainers to remember, after the fact, but can be a big stressor if you forget in the moment.
If you need a little refresher, or a sanity check, on what you may forget during wedding planning, this post is going to help you out. The key is to go through these reminders, one by one. Think about if you have a plan for them. Adjust as needed. If you’ve missed something, add it in. Nothing here is that complicated, they are just easy to forget.
10 More Things You May Forget During Wedding Planning
Remember, there are plenty of things you may forget during wedding planning. Some will be a big deal. Others not so much. However, it’s best to be prepared, if something is particularly important to you. Because, let’s face it, once you know, you know. And who doesn’t want to be in the know when planning a wedding?
Let’s get into it!
1. YOU MAY FORGET THAT WEDDING CLOTHES NEED THEIR OWN TRANSPORTION PLAN
One thing that we may forget during wedding planning, with regards to clothes, is how they will get to our actual wedding. Now, I know what you may be thinking. We take the clothes with us. What more is there than that? Well, let’s take some time to think about it.
Typically, wedding clothes are the last thing that we will put on during our wedding day. They complete our look. For some weddings, this means that we will do our hair and makeup in one place, and then transport ourselves to our weddings. The clothes will come with us, but how do we keep them safe? How do we keep them clean? You need a plan for this!
If you are traveling with your wedding clothes, in any sort of way, remember to put them in a protective bag. Beware of folding them up, damage from inclement weather, or placing them in any danger. Always make sure they are cared for, right up to the moment you put them on.
2. IT’S EASY TO FORGET TO HAVE EXTRA CASH ON HAND DURING YOUR WEDDING
Alright, this may be a “nice to have” sort of thing. However, if you can, remember to have extra cash on hand during your wedding. You never know when it will come in handy.
At our wedding, we had a little extra cash, thinking that we were not likely to need it. As it turned out, we did. We brought a video camera to our wedding, and I forgot to put in a new memory card. Realizing this about an hour before the wedding, my brother went out to a local store to buy a new card. I was able to give him some of our emergency cash for the purpose. Could we have used a credit card? Sure. However, it was handy to just throw some cash at the issue.
3. DON’T FORGET TO DELEGATE SOMEONE TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR PURSE
Lots of things go with wedding gowns. Veils, for example. Bouquets. Fancy shoes.
Do you know what doesn’t go with a wedding gown? A purse.
Of course, it’s always an option to forgo having a purse on your wedding day. However, this may mean you don’t have your phone. Or keys. Or credit card. It could mean that you don’t have the items that you like to have with you. If you’re okay with this, it’s okay to not follow this tip. If you’re into keeping your items close, but don’t want to ruin the aesthetic of your look, I do have a tip for you.
Remember to have someone else be in charge of your purse.
It can be as simple as a bag with your name on it. It can be an actual wallet or clutch. In any case, just remember to delegate someone to be in charge of your items, so you don’t have to worry about them.
4. YOU MAY FORGET THAT ITEMS WILL NEED TO BE TAKEN HOME FROM YOUR WEDDING
Ah. We always think about the items we want to bring to our weddings. However, one thing that you may forget about during wedding planning is that there will be things to take away from your wedding, too.
When you think of your own wedding transportation plan, and how you will remove yourself from your venue, remember the items that you need to take with you. This may be the things you brought to your wedding. Clothing and décor, for example. It may also be the things you acquire at your wedding, like gifts and cards. If you are traveling in a packed car, or public transportation, it may be tricky to bring everything with you.
As a tip, have a back up plan so others can help take things from your wedding for you. And, if possible, keep a list of what needs to be taken so nothing is missed.
5. REMEMBER TO CREATE AN AFTER-THE-WEDDING PLAN
It’s easy to plan for the things that happen before, and during, your wedding. However, you may forget during wedding planning that once the wedding ends, there should be another destination.
Now, this can be as simple as your home. Or your hotel room. It may be an after party, or second location of some sort to keep the celebration going. Either way, you should discuss your plans and preferences with your partner ahead of your wedding. Talk about your options for after your wedding. Discuss what you’re likely to want to do. And then plan for it.
6. DON’T FORGET TO PLAN FOR GUEST PARKING
Parking, parking, parking. Do your guests need help parking? Did you forget that this is something you should think about during your wedding planning?
Look, some venues have very straightforward parking. The kind of parking that is a no brainer. Others have limited or complicated parking. Remember to inform your guests of the kind of situation they may face should they drive and park at your wedding. The worst case scenario is that you have guests show up late and flustered due to parking issues. So, plan ahead.
Some questions you may want to ask yourself, in order to plan for parking:
- Do you need to have an attendant there to help guests?
- Will your guest be able to park and then find your venue easily?
- Is there a way for you to provide transportation or a ride share for your guests?
- How can you make it as simple as possible for your guests?
All of this will help make sure your guests have a great experience before your wedding.
7. DON’T FORGET TO PAY YOUR VENDORS IN FULL, AS YOUR CONTRACTS STATE
In the days that lead up to your wedding, you’ll have a million tiny details to remember. So much so, that you may forget that your vendors may need to be paid in full right before the wedding.
Chances are many of your vendors had you pay some sort of deposit when you booked them. The caveat is usually that the full amount of the payment will be provided the day before your wedding, or even on your wedding day. I’m not saying that a vendor won’t show up if they aren’t paid in full, or that they they won’t remind you, but this is something that you’ll want to be prepared for, just in case.
In the weeks leading up to your wedding, double check all your contracts. Pay everyone ahead of time. Reach out to vendors if you’re not sure. Do as much as you can ahead of your wedding, and keep track of what is left to be done. And, if this is too overwhelming to you, or issues come up, delegate this task to someone else so you can enjoy your wedding day to the fullest.
8. IT’S EASY TO FORGET ABOUT HOTEL ROOM BLOCKS

Booking hotel room blocks is definitely something you may forget during wedding planning. Essentially, all you have to do is research places for your guests to stay. Then, work with the hotel to determine a good rate. Inform your guests via your website or invitations. It’s not difficult, but it can be an afterthought during wedding planning.

9. REMEMBER TO FEED THOSE WHO ARE GETTING READY WITH YOU
I can’t stress this enough. Don’t forget to feed the people who are with you during your wedding day.
Because of nerves, or just being busy, it may be an afterthought for you, the person getting married, to want to eat. However, your wedding party, parents, and makeup artist may end up getting a little hungry. Snacks are great, but you really should plan on a meal as well. If you are spending hours with a group, have a plan for food. Get it delivered. Have everyone’s order ready, early. Beware of dietary restrictions. Just make it happen.
10. REMEMBER TO TIP YOUR VENDORS
Tipping vendors can easily be forgotten during wedding planning. I mean, ideally, they are tipped right after the wedding. However, you’re likely busy, tired, and overwhelmed at that point.
My tip? Plan ahead. Delegate tipping vendors to a trusted adult who you’re close to. Plan on taking care of it the day after the wedding, electronically. If you’re dealing with cash, get it all together weeks ahead of the wedding. If you want to wait until you see what kind of service you receive from your vendors, that’s fine, but put a reminder in your calendar to take care of it at some point. Just make it happen.
