Looking for simple skincare routines for men who are getting married? This is the post for you!
Now, there are a ton of skincare tips out there for men. And most of them are consistent with each other. The basics are pretty clear. Cleanse, treat, prep, protect. The same holds true for men and women, actually. However, there is more to skincare than just these steps. A lot more.
The key to skincare routines for men who are getting married is to not only set up a routine that is simple enough to start immediately, but is manageable to keep up after the wedding. Just like with women, men want to look their best on their wedding day. They do not, however, want to have a forty-step routine that will be confusing and cost a fortune. At least, none of the men I know do.
Simple Skincare Routines For Men Who Are Getting Married
This post is going to give you simple skincare routines for men who are getting married. There are a couple different routines to choose from. One is very basic, and the other is more involved. There are also tips on treating your skin right from the inside out, knowing your skin, and picking products that don’t suck. It’s a lot, but it’s also doable.
Let’s get into it!
TREAT YOUR SKIN RIGHT WITH SOME BEST PRACTICE
First things first, let’s talk about things men can do to treat their skin with care, that don’t involve products or step by step routines.
For example, men should wash their faces after they exercise, to remove dirt and debris that accumulate while sweating. Daily washing should be a practice, even on rest days. If a man experiences razor burn, ingrown hairs, or irritation after shaving, mixing up shaving techniques may help. This may mean trying a different razor, shaving cream, or just going with the grain instead of against it.
Additionally, men (and everyone) should wear sunscreen if out in the sun for prolonged periods of time. Skin should be checked each year for moles, too, by a professional. Plus, proper hydration and diet can help with glowing skin without any skincare products.
Even if you’re not into a skincare routine, at least get the basics down for healthy skin.
BEFORE YOU START WITH PRODUCTS, KNOW YOUR SKIN TYPE
If you’re using products on your skin that are not meant for your skin type, you’re not doing yourself any favors.
For example, harsher products that dry up oily skin will make sensitive skin more dry. They can also create issues for normal skin. Extra moisturizing products for dry skin may make oily skin appear greasy. No one wants to make their problems worse, especially when you’re getting married and want to look your best.
So, before you start a skincare routine, know what you’re dealing with. Here is a breakdown of the major skin types:
- Sensitive skin may feel stinging or burning after harsh products.
- Normal skin is clear and feels great most of the time.
- Dry skin is flaky, and may be itchy.
- Oily skin is greasy and may be prone to acne.
- Combination skin means some of your skin may be dry, or oily, or normal.
Knowing what your skin is like will help you find the right products for you. Take some time to analyze your needs before you start buying any products.
WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU PICK PRODUCTS
Alright, let’s talk about products, now that you know what you may be looking for.
Beyond products meant just for you, there are some universal rules for products. You don’t want to put a bunch of crap on your face, so to speak. Products do not have to be expensive, but they should be quality. Putting ingredients on your skin that can cause health issues, are unethical, or gross, won’t be worth the effort.
So, look at the ingredients. Generally, the less, the better. Some brands, like Native, are known for their clean and minimal ingredients. There are lots of clean brands out there, too, and a little research can go a long way. If you want to keep things simple, remember these general rules:
- Read the ingredients. If you see one you know to be harmful, don’t get the product.
- Choose products targeted for your skin type.
- Avoid anything with “fragrance” and “unscented” in the description or ingredient list.
- Avoid excess ingredients.
- Try and find a clean brand that works for your skin.
REALLY SIMPLE SKINCARE ROUTINES FOR MEN WHO ARE GETTING MARRIED
Okay, on to the first of two simple skincare routines for men who are getting married.
The one below is bare minimum. The least you will want to do, just to get started. Later on, when you get into a rhythm, you can always add in more. The goal is to take care of your skin twice a day. Morning and evening. If you can do that, and follow these simple steps, you’re on your way to a solid routine.
- Cleanse your face and neck daily. Remember, use a product meant for your skin type. This may mean that your cleanser is a gentle foaming cleanser for normal skin. Or, it’s an actual oil for dry skin. Perhaps you want a cleanser with salicylic acid for oily skin. You do what works for you. Just do it morning and night.
- Exfoliate once a week, or more if your skin responds well to it. To exfoliate, you have options. Most skin types respond well to products with chemical exfoliants, like hyaluronic acid. It’s gentle, and it’s soothing. Other people like a physical exfoliate, with actual abrasive ingredients in the product.
- Moisturize twice a day. Again, heavier creams are better for dry skin. Lighter moisturizers are better for oily skin. No matter the skin type, there should be some moisture added.
- Wear sunscreen if you’re going outside. Ideally, it will be mineral sunscreen, meant for your face, or your body, depending on where you’re putting it.
A SLIGHTLY LESS SIMPLE SKINCARE ROUTINE FOR MEN WHO ARE GETTING MARRIED
As promised, there is one more simple skincare routine for men who are getting married, in this post.
Of course, you can always stick to the more simple routine laid out above. It’s a great one for travel, or for when you’re really busy. It’s the non-negotiable routine. However, if you have more time, or are ready for a little more effort, the routine below is the one for you. It’s still easy to adhere to, but it’s effective. Perfect for those who want to look their best for their wedding day, but don’t want to be overwhelmed.
Here’s the slightly less simple skincare routine for men who are getting married:
- Cleanse face and neck daily. Remember, your neck needs love, too. Even if you have a hairy neck, it should be cleaned. Dirt and debris can cause acne and irritation. So, give your whole face and neck some love each morning and evening.
- Apply toner. Toner is prep for more targeted products. It’s easy to apply, and usually very gentle on your skin. It helps the rest of your products work better and isn’t much of a commitment.
- Exfoliate weekly. As mentioned above, exfoliates can be chemical or physical. Sensitive or dry skin will do better with a gentle chemical exfoliate. Oily or normal skin may do better with a physical exfoliant. If your skin responds well to it, exfoliate twice a week, or every other day.
- Apply serums based on your skin type. These may be vitamin C serums, or serums for anti-aging, extra hydration, or oil control.
- Use an eye cream at night. Wrinkles around our eyes are so common. So, treat your eyes specifically with a targeted cream.
- Moisturize twice a day. Use a lighter cream during the day, and a night cream at night.
- Don’t skimp on SPF. Again, we should all be using it if we’re in the sun.
