Looking for simple ways to announce your engagement? This is the place for ideas!
Here’s the thing. Getting engaged is super exciting. And, it can be tempting to announce your engagement with an elaborate post, celebration, or event. However, for many of us, we don’t want to go through a lot of trouble just to let others know we’re engaged. We want to make it special, but not over the top. Simple is the name of the game.
The great news is that there are simple ways to announce your engagement. Ways that don’t take up a lot of time or money. Ways that are still special, yet manageable. Because, let’s be honest here. For most of us busy people, we want to spend the effort and money we have on the wedding itself. Not necessarily the engagement.
9 Simple Ways To Announce Your Engagement
This post is going to share nine simple ways to announce your engagement. Some of the ways are quick and easy. Others may take a bit more effort. All of the ways are special and your friends and family will appreciate them. It’s up to you and your fiancé to pick and choose the ways to announce your engagement that feel most authentic to you. You may even find that some people learn about it one way, and others in another way.
Let’s get into it!
1. ANNOUNCE YOUR ENGAGEMENT WITH BY CALLING PEOPLE AS SOON AS YOU SAY YES
There are few things in life more exciting than getting engaged. I found this to be true for me, at least.
So, when you get engaged, start calling your family. Your friends. Yes, of course, you can text everyone, but a call is personal. It means business, so to speak. And you don’t have to be on the phone long. Tell your family member or friend you’re engaged and then let them know you’ll share the details later and that you have to call more people. They will understand.
2. SEND OUT A MASS TEXT
Speaking of impersonal, but effective, let’s talk about texts.
When you go to announce your engagement, just send a mass text to people who will want to know strait from you, but don’t need a phone call. Maybe it’s to a group you have saved in your phone. Or, you copy and paste to a bunch of individual people. Either way, you’ll get the message out there. And after you do, you can expect a bunch of excited replies, which you can choose to respond to immediately, or not. Prepare yourself, though – some people will call you right away to talk about the proposal and next steps.
3. ANNOUNCE YOUR ENGAGEMENT IN PERSON
You know what’s really fun? Letting others know you’re engaged when they are right in front of you.
This can be done very slyly, while meeting with someone one on one. Or, you can make a big announcement at a large family or friend gathering. Either way, there’s nothing like seeing the excitement of others right there, in person. Yes, it may be difficult to keep a secret leading up to seeing your family and friends, but the pay off will be well worth it.
4. TELL EVERYONE YOU’RE ENGAGED IN A SOCIAL MEDIA POST
Okay, let’s point out the obvious way to announce your engagement. Social media.
Of course, this can be super simple or very elaborate. You can take a quick selfie and throw it on Instagram or Facebook (by the way, this is what we did, #noregrets). Or, you can have a professional photo shoot after your engagement, and share those photos. Either way, this is a quick and easy way to let lots and lots of people know that you’re going to get married. And, the excitement is still fun.
5. SEND OUT A DIGITAL ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCEMENT
Digital is the way of the world now. And digital announcements are so easy to create and send.
All you need to do for this is to create a graphic and email it out. The graphic can be as simple as a photo of you and your partner, with a basic email drafted letting everyone know you got engaged. You could also design a fancy email using an email tool like Mailchimp or Flodesk. Alternatively, you can create a cool and professional looking graphic in Canva, using their templates. Pop it into or on an email attachment, and send away.
By the way, if you want to know more about using Canva for your wedding, this is the post for you.
6. ANNOUNCE YOUR ENGAGEMENT WITH A PHYSICAL MAILER
Is physical mail dead? No way!
There is something really charming about sending out a mailer. Just like with a digital announcement, create some sort of graphic and have it printed. Then mail it out. Personally, I love companies like Minted for mailers and templates, but you can again use Canva and print it yourself. To save on time, you could send postcards.
Yes, this way is more expensive and time consuming, but it’s also really sweet, and leaves everyone with a souvenir of your engagement.
7. COMBINE YOUR ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCEMENT AND YOUR HOLIDAY CARDS
Oh wait, did you think we were done talking about mailers? Not yet!
If you’re the kind of person who will send out cards during the holidays, why not announce your engagement on your holiday cards this year? The two are so easy to combine, and you can include photos (professional or not), right on the cards. Two birds, one stone.
8. PUT YOUR ENGAGEMENT IN A LOCAL NEWPAPER OR MAGAZINE
Let’s go old school. Real old school.
Back in the day, people used to announce their engagements in local newspapers or magazines all the time. And, to be clear, some publications still allow this to happen. If this appeals to you, make it happen for you. Especially if you get engaged in a unique way, or at a special location. For example, you may be the first couple to get engaged at a new local restaurant. Or, the latest couple to get engaged from your local high school. Share it with the paper, or see if you can buy some space in their announcement section. It’s fun, and leaves you with a memento.
9. TELL EVERYONE YOU’RE ENGAGED BY SENDING SAVE THE DATES
Last mailer, I swear. In fact, last way to announce your engagement on this list.
Let people know you’re engaged by sending Save The Dates. Yes, this means that you’re not making a big announcement until you know when and where you’re getting married. And, yes, it means you kind of also need to know your guest list before you announce your engagement. However, it will be a fun surprise for people to receive in their inboxes or mail boxes (yes, you can send these digital or snail-mail, whatever you prefer).
THOUGHTS ON HOW TO ANNOUNCE YOUR ENGAGEMENT
Friends, there are so many simple ways to announce your engagement. Plus, you can totally mix them up. Call your mom. Text your friends. Share with a mailer to all your other wedding guests. And then announce on social media. Do what feels right to you and your partner, and enjoy this special and exciting chapter in your life. Happy wedding planning!
