Everyone wants to be centered and relaxed on their wedding day. It’s totally normal, and even expected to wake up on your wedding day with jitters. There are things that you can do about that, though.
It’s a big day, no matter what your wedding entails. The fact that you’re getting married to your partner is probably not what will causes the nerves, but rather hoping that everything goes well and perhaps getting through the whole “center of attention” thing.
The thing is, jitters can really take away from what should be a wonderful experience. And there are three simple and effective ways that you can be centered and relaxed on your wedding day so you can enjoy your wedding to the fullest.
Three Ways To Be Centered and Relaxed On Your Wedding Day
1. Mediate in the morning.
I know people who swear by this, and meditate every day of their lives.
You can meditate for as little as one minute, or for as long as you want. Meditation can be done lying down, sitting, standing, or even walking. It can be done in complete silence with no equipment. You can even do it when you are surrounded by a crowd or with lots of noise going on (though for a beginner, this may not be the best choice).
Meditation is known to lower your stress hormones, and help you regulate your breathing, blood pressure, and heart rate. By doing it, you allow your mind to be truly present in the moment and focus on something to help put all negative or distracting thoughts away.
If you’re interested in meditating on your wedding day, I suggest starting a practice at least a month before your wedding, so you are fully prepared to get the most from the experience on your wedding day. The easiest way to start meditating these days is by downloading one of many apps and spending a little time each day following their instructions. Calm and Headspace are among the most popular, but there really are lots of options out there.
2. Have coffee or breakfast alone.
Your wedding day will probably be filled with a lot of people around you.
People getting ready, people asking you questions, people reminding you of the time… people, people, people. And chances are, you had a lot of people around you at the rehearsal the day before. And you’ll have people around you the day after the wedding if you do a brunch. . . it’s a lot of people, even for the most extroverted of folks.
If you can wake up early on your wedding day (build this into your schedule), and go get a coffee or tea ALONE, with no one around, you may find that this is the only peace you get all day. Go somewhere where you can see something beautiful, sit outside if you can, and do something enjoyable, like reading, listening to a podcast, or scrolling your phone. Make this all about you.
If the thought of going somewhere by yourself don’t appeal to you, maybe take one other special person. Perhaps a parent or close friend. Maybe it’s your grandparent or relative that’s in from out of town. But keep it to just one person who you can have a special time with.
3. Exercise.
Now, I will start off by disclosing that I am an exerciser.
I go to the gym regularly (when we’re not in quarantine), and I really enjoy moving my body. My preference is a high intensity cardio class that I can do with my friends, but I have also been known to practice yoga, barre, and lift weights.
On my wedding day, I totally exercised to calm the jitters, and it worked super well.
You can exercise in many different forms. For example, you can go for a walk. Or to your local gym for a class. Or run on a treadmill (or outside), or take a yoga class online. If you are able to do just 30 minutes of something that you enjoy, I promise you it will set the tone for the rest of the day.
On my wedding day, my favorite high intensity class was held down the street at a local gym close to our hotel. It was at 8:30 in the morning, and I went for 45 minutes. I kid you not, when I woke up that day I was so nervous I was shaking. But, when I was done with the class I was incredibly centered, calm, and really ready to enjoy the day. It was the perfect thing for me to do.

So there you have it, folks! Three simple ways that can help you have the BEST experience on your wedding day by being both centered and relaxed. I promise if you do one or all of these you’ll feel amazing afterwards!
