Registering for wedding gifts can be a tricky endeavor.
Some people believe you can skip registering at all. They think that if you don’t have a registry, your guests will automatically gift you money. I’d like to debunk this myth. It simply isn’t true. If you don’t have a registry, those who like to give wedding gifts will still give them. Only they will try to anticipate what you want or need. Which, to be honest, isn’t ideal.
So, registering is a good thing. But, where do you start? What will you want or need? Do you even want or need anything? In this age of getting married later in life, most people already have enough supplies for their homes. And, of course, many people are trying to stay minimal and keep the amount items they own low. It makes it all very important to choose wisely when it comes to your wedding gifts and registry.
Wedding Gifts I Still Use After Five Years Of Marriage
Because it can all be so confusing, I’m writing this post about wedding gifts I still use after five years of marriage. Now, these aren’t gifts that just sit in a closet. And, yes, we do have some of those types of gifts in our home. These are the gifts that actually get used. The ones that are a part of our every day lives. The cherished ones. Wedding gifts that are worth registering for.

HAND MIXER
If you don’t own a hand mixer, you are seriously missing out.
I was given this hand mixer by a friend at my bridal shower, and I believe it was a part of our wedding registry. And, let me tell you, it’s gotten some serious use over the years. A hand mixer is a fantastic alternative to a big KitchenAid or bulky piece of equipment. It’s small, and the beaters are easy to clean.
Over the years, I’ve made cookies, cakes, brownies, mashed potatoes, and lots of other goodies with this mixer. I just love it. And, of course, who doesn’t love a good beater covered in sweet batter?
WINE GLASSES
Are you a wine drinker? We are!
Even if you aren’t a wine drinker, wine glasses can still be useful. Using a wine glass can even elevate a non-alcoholic drink. In fact, I often drink non-alcoholic drinks out of wine glasses, just for fun. When we got married, some guests gave us very nice, and very large, crystal wine glasses, and they have gotten so much use over the years. There’s just something about a sturdy wine glass. Plus, a set means that if one or two break, you still have extras.
PORTABLE TRAYS
Do you have any trays in your home? If no, may I ask, why not?
Trays are so useful. And the ones we received from our wedding have been well loved. They came with little legs, so they can be used flat, or the legs can come out for a sort of table. Trays are perfect for eating on the couch, for a little portable charcuterie situation, and for kids. Plus, they are super easy to store. We just keep them under the couch and pull them out as needed.
PICTURE FRAMES
Picture frames were kind of a wedding gift to ourselves, but they have been put to use.
When you get married, you’ll surely have lots of photos taken. If you have some nice frames ready for them, you’re more likely to get the photos actually developed and displayed in that frame. So, having a great frame, or collection of frames, is sort of a motivation to get your wedding on your walls. Plus, frames are easy to register for, they aren’t that expensive, and you’re definitely going to receive them off your registry.
LIQUOR DECANTERS
I must admit, I never thought about decanters until I got married.
If you have any sort of bar at your home, I suggest registering for glass liquor decanters. They look so much better than keeping your liquor bottles in their original form. We registered for a few different styles, and I really like how they are displayed in our home. The key, though, is to avoid registering for crystal decanters, if you will use them for long term liquid storage. The crystal can leak lead into your liquor, which isn’t healthy to ingest. As long as you choose basic glass, you should be fine. Plus, it’s less expensive than crystal.
SET OF MEASURING CUPS
You wouldn’t think it, but this set of measuring cups has become one of my most used wedding gifts.
It’s not just any set. I mean, well, it is. But it’s awesome. The biggest cup holds over four cups of liquid or ingredients. And then, all the other cups fit right into it. The cups are angled, too, so you can easily see how much you have in them by looking from up above rather than crouching down to the cup’s level. Plus, they are dishwasher safe and super easy to store.
I use them all the time. And I love them. Such great wedding gifts.

LINEN STEAMER
Okay, last one. For our wedding, we received a linen steamer.
Now, this was a super random registry gift. I didn’t think anyone would actually get it for us. I had been wanting a steamer for awhile, as both my husband and I can use them. And then, someone actually got it for us. And, it’s great. We keep it in our linen closet, ready for us. It’s easy to pull out and put away, and comes in handy when we don’t have time to throw something in the dryer.

Friends, you never know what wedding gifts you will still use after five years of marriage. And, I bet if you ask me in another five or ten years, I will still be using the gifts on this list. Remember, wedding registries aren’t a requirement to wedding planning, but they do come in handy. If you need tips on creating your registry, this is a great post for you.
