7 Reasons Why Winter Weddings Are Awesome

Winter weddings are awesome. I’m just going to throw that out there.

We all know that weddings have a distinct season. From the months of May to October, weddings just shine. They are abundant. People are booked up all over the place going to wedding after wedding, all summer long and into the fall. Then winter hits. And it seems like no one is getting married. However, I’m here to tell you right now that winter weddings are awesome.

There are many reasons why winter weddings are awesome, all of which I will go into more below. Not only are they more affordable, venues and vendors are more available, and the photos can be out of this world, but they are just special. Different. The weather is cool, and guests are in a festive or cozy mindset. I mean it when I say winter weddings are the way to go for many couples.

This post is going to share with you seven reasons why winter weddings are awesome. As mentioned above, the reasons are vast and applicable to just about everyone. Of course, if you’re sold on a spring wedding in a field of daisies, or a summer wedding by the beach, or a fall wedding in the middle of an aspen forest, you do you. Winter weddings are awesome, and they are not for everyone.

Let’s get into it!

1. VENDORS AND VENUES ARE MORE LIKELY TO BE AVAILABLE

As mentioned above, when you get married in the winter, vendors and venues are more likely to be available.

This is a good thing when you really, really want to get married at a certain spot or with a specific vendor there. The best vendors book up, and not having to compete for them allows a couple to breath a little. It removes some stress. Plus, if you are undecided about a certain vendor, like if you want a photobooth, videographer, or even a wedding cake, the pressure isn’t as intense. You can take an extra beat before committing because chances are those vendors will be free when you need them.

2. WINTER WEDDINGS CAN MEAN DISCOUNTS

Did I mention saving money earlier? I’m sure I did, but let’s talk about why discounts make winter weddings a big selling point for many couples.

Most venues will have an off, and on, season. The “on” season comes with higher prices. To boost bookings in the winter, or “off” season, many venues will instantly discount themselves in the off-months. Additionally, vendors will do the same, or they may be more willing to negotiate or drop prices than in times where they are super busy. This means that if you get married in the winter, you will instantly save on the exact same space and service you’d have if you got married in the summer.

I mean, who doesn’t want that?

3. YOU MAY BE ABLE TO SAVE ON DÉCOR

Depending on your style, and where you get married, a winter wedding may mean you get to save on décor.

The main reason for this is because many venues get decorated for the holidays. So, if you get married in late November or December, your venue will likely already have some extra lighting, decorations, and sparkle added to it. You can likely get away with no additional décor, or very little. Of course, if you don’t like their décor, it’s another story, but at least you have the option to go with how the venue is set up.

4. NO ONE NEEDS TO STAND IN THE STIFFLING HEAT

For me at least, one of the worst parts of summer weddings is the weather.

I mean, yes, the weather is nice. It’s sunny. . . probably. But here’s the thing. Sun brings heat. And heat brings sweat. And sweat brings a whole ton of discomfort. It’s not fun on the best of days, and it’s really not fun when you’re dressed up for a wedding.

The cooler weather is yet another reason why winter weddings are awesome. Men will be comfortable in their suits. Women will be more comfortable, too, as long as they dress with a little extra layer or two. I, for one, am a fan.

5. YOU CAN LEAN INTO THE COZINESS AND INTIMACY OF WINTER

Putting the cozy clothing to the side, let’s talk about winter perks in general.

When you have a wedding in the winter, you can totally lean into the coziness and intimacy of winter. Think warm fires. Hot drinks. Pumpkin spice and cinnamon. For wedding extras, you can put out blankets or wraps. Candles can be abundant (as long as your venue allows them). Winter weddings allow you to create a whole vibe, which is just another reason why winter weddings are awesome.

6. SNOW (AND BAD WEATHER) CAN MEAN AMAZING PHOTOS

Okay, let’s talk about the pink elephant in the room.

Winter can bring snow. Or, bad weather in general (which yes, I know I just highlighted the greatness of winter weather but we all know there can be a downside). When it comes to your wedding, never fear, bad weather can create unique photo opportunities.

Got a snowstorm going on during your wedding? Take some photos outside, or at least with a window behind you to capture the flutters. Rainy day? Get some extra umbrellas and keep yourself dry while creating cool shots. Frost everywhere? Honestly, frost, and ice, can mean reflections you wouldn’t otherwise get.

Look, it may not be ideal for driving, but I promise a skilled photographer will make the most of your environment and give you photos no one was expecting.

7. YOUR WEDDING WILL BE DIFFERENT FROM ALL THE REST

Last reason why winter weddings are awesome!

They are different. Unique. Not the norm.

Most of your guests are likely used to spring, summer, and fall weddings, as mentioned above. Winter weddings are in their own class. They allow couples to lean into the season, embrace the cooler weather, and even create an ambiance that would seem totally weird in any other season. Give yourself a moment to enjoy the fact that your wedding won’t be cookie-cutter. Your guests will remember it, and it will be awesome.

From the better prices, the easier availability, and the fact that you can create a whole vibe with the weather and décor, I’m sold on getting married in the winter.
