Let Them Eat Wedding Cake?

Yum! Wedding cake!

I think we can all agree that dessert is a MUST HAVE at your wedding.

Traditionally, a wedding cake was the default. However, in recent years, some couples feel the need to move away from the cake world. Not only can cakes be very expensive, not everyone loves them.

Maybe you’re more of a cupcake, donut, pie, ice cream, or cookie person? There is nothing wrong with mixing it up. I’ve been to weddings where there was cake, or pie, or ice cream, or mini dessert options (think tarts and mousse), or even a gluten free / dairy free meringue option. All were good!

Here’s the thing about cakes that I want you to consider. . . in addition to being delicious, they can be beautiful. I don’t want to brag, but my wedding cake was a show stopper. We actually didn’t have to spend as much on décor because they did such a good job on the cake. However, if you’re looking for non-cake alternatives, here are some fun options:

A SUNDAE BAR

This can be super fun for a summer wedding! Have some popular flavors and set out some great toppings. Want to be super extra? Hire an ice cream truck to treat your guests!

FRESH AND FANCY DONUTS

This has gained popularity over the years. It’s not always easy to get fresh donuts in the evening, but if you can swing it, it’s fun. And it can look really, really cool if they are placed on a board or in some sort of tiered layer.

SPECIALTY COOKIES, TARTS, AND MINI CUPCAKES

This could allow your guests to try more than one thing. I personally LOVED this option at wedding I went to a few years ago.

A SMALL “SHOW” WEDDING CAKE AND SHEET CAKES TO BE SERVED

This is a great option if you’re budget conscious but still want a cake. I’ve even had friends buy the sheet cakes from local grocery stores. They are often purchased at a discount and can be decorated so beautifully.

Whatever you choose – make sure it’s something that either or your partner like! And trust me, no one will judge your wedding based on if you do or don’t get a cake. Just make there is something sweet to enjoy!
